Facial Essentials + The Discovery of “Frownies”

Two years after I tried Botox – I discovered Frownies (facial patches that soften and smooth the appearance of wrinkles, while you sleep)! They’re made of natural kraft paper containing a water-activated adhesive, and once I heard about them (on a weekend getaway with my bookclub sisterhood), I ordered a box through Amazon. Frownies are about $26 per box (delivered), which lasts approximately 8-16 weeks.

They work! While they’re not the “sexiest” look at night, I love them. Michael (my husband) laughs, but the “look” does not stop him from any couple time he is hoping for! He was, however, the first person to say he noticed a difference in a short period of time (the right thing for a husband to say!). I have since had girlfriends notice a difference too, subsequently resulting in their own orders.  The key (as with anything) in seeing results is patience and diligence for at least 30-45 days.

Another anti-aging product I love is Rodan and Fields Redefine Lip Renewing Serum. My girlfriend Lindsay, an Independent Consultant for Rodan and Fields, recently introduced me to it. You know those tiny top lines that your perfect red lipstick runs into after an hour of wearing? Well this serum helps: it smooths those lines out. I put it on at night and sometimes treat myself again in the morning – it’s a great lip softener as well.

My third must have (outside dermatology grade) is the Eminence Organic Skin Care line. I first experienced it years ago during a facial at Elkhorn Resort Solstice Spa, and now my daughter and I both use Eminence products. All are organic and natural, and they smell so delicious you could eat them. The serums are delightful and make your skin very happy! I recently ordered through Canadian site beautysense.ca, where they also have starter kits available at reasonable price points.

Finally, here is my list of “must haves” when it comes to daily and weekly facial regimes:

Morning (daily)

  • Eminence Blueberry Soy Exfoliating Cleanser
  • Clinique Repairwear Laser Focus Wrinkle Correcting Eye Cream
  • Vivierskin Serum 10 – Vitamin C
  • Intraline Restorative Moisturizer with Hyaluronic Acid and Sea Buckhorn, or
  • Pro-Derm Facial Cream – SPF 20 (if needing sunscreen that day)

Evening (daily)

  • Vichy 3 in 1 One Step Cleanser for Sensitive Skin – removes eye and face makeup perfectly
  • Clinique Repairwear Laser Focus Wrinkle Correcting Eye Cream
  • Intraline Restorative Moisturizer with Hyaluronic Acid and Sea Buckhorn

Twice a week (facial scrub!)

  • Eminence Pear & Poppy Seed Microderm Polisher (amazing scrub)
  • Eminence Sour Cherry Whip Moisturizer
  • Clinique Repairwear Laser Focus Wrinkle Correcting Eye Cream

Twice a week (facial masque)

  • Pro-derm Micro Peel Masque (my Sunday night ritual)
  • Eminence Strawberry Rhubarb Masque (if time allows and I remember – this is a Wednesday night treat)
  • Eminence Facial Recovery Oil (absolutely beautiful on your skin – a great product to use the morning you jump on an airplane or get home when you land – totally restorative)
  • Eminence Lavender Age Corrective Night Concentrate

One thing that is clearly important – more than any other product or treatment on the market – FOOD.  Make sure you are putting healthy food in your body.  You are what you eat – your body is your only temple!  Foods can make a significant difference in our skin and the aging process (future blog to come).

I am constantly eager to learn of great anti-aging (preferably natural / organic) products.  If you have some you love and want to share – let me know!
