Spring – Saturday Night – Patio Time!

Saturday night date - fashion - cartier

One of my and Michael’s favourite ways to spend a spring Saturday evening is dinner out with friends. Last weekend, we were able to do just that with a special couple we had not seen in a while.

Even with warm days and sunshine, spring can still present cool evenings. This can be tricky when choosing what to wear (especially if you’re planning a patio date!).

I love a longer light weight cotton sweater (that still feels cozy yet sophisticated) paired with a skinny black jean – one of my staples. A black jean is a classic look and compliments a number of colour pallets – just be careful with orange tones (hello Halloween!). My J Brand jeans are super comfortable with a higher waist and slight stretch.  They have a light sheen which makes them a bit dressier for evening wear, yet great with a sneaker or flat shoe, white t-shirt and denim jacket (if needed) during the day.  An added feature is the zippered ankle which you can create some different looks with.

My preference with skinny jeans is a top that’s either “blousey” or longer in length. This Wooden Ships sweater tank (from October Boutique) offers a cut up the side, which visually elongates your legs. The cowl neck drapes nicely – eliminating the need for a necklace.

The Joie suede Banji Sandals are a fun accessory themselves! I fell in love with them when visiting friends in Scottsdale this past winter. They can be worn with jeans, shorts, a skirt, or a dress – and the wraparound strap can be tied with the tassel in the front, back, or side of your ankle.

I kept my makeup neutral, other than a reddish orange lipstick and gloss (Rouge Allure Velvet lipstick #60 and Rouge Coco Gloss #738).

I found between the shoes, cowl neck, and side zipper on the pants, jewelry needed to be basic and minimal. Plus, I learnt the hard way that I need to be cautious with cotton looped sweaters as they can easily snag (side note – when travelling, pack them in a separate soft cloth bag in your suitcase). Hilary Druxman made my bracelet for me (from gold jewelry I no longer wore), which was a perfect addition to the outfit.

Don’t forget to grab a light jacket or wrap for the evening, especially with the bare shoulders. I love my Gucci outlet mall find – it’s neutral and a great weight for year round use.

If you are stretched for time on a busy Saturday – you can take this outfit from day to night by switching out a pair of sneakers/flats and denim jacket for a pair of heels, a wrap, and a bright lipstick. Grab a neutral clutch or evening bag and you are good to go!

Saturday night presents a special time to relax, recharge, and enjoy time with friends. It’s the perfect time to celebrate your accomplishments from the prior week, friendship and the fact that the weekend and spring is here!

Why? Because we can!
